How do you make a soil sifter?

In the spring I am going to be digging a square-shaped hole, and filling it with new soil and kitchen scrapings etc. The soil that I will dig up will be going into my composter. The only problem is i have a lot of little pebbles and other unwanted objects that I dont want to be in the composter. So how do i make a soil sifter?
